TAKING GEOSPATIAL DATA INTO THE FUTURE
CADASTRAL MODELLING AND
GOOGLE EARTH IMAGERY
KML (or kmz) files belong to a Google format which allows viewing cadastral information superimposed over Google’s Earth photography. Accuracy must be considered in the light of the image integrity and the currency of the underlying Google photography, but that aside, the imagery can give a very useful perspective to cadastral information.
Because Google Earth controls the representation of the cadastral data in a KML file it may be necessary when viewing a KML file in Google Earth to adjust the map’s properties within Google Earth.

During recent floods in Queensland, the Brisbane City Council turned to a situational-awareness map, created with ArcGis by ESRI Australia, utilising, under licence, Geodata Australia's technology. Created in early 2010, the model was in sudden demand as the threat of flood waters became imminent. The video below demonstrates how government, business and individuals are using database sets of mapped information, (the cadastral integrity of which we verify), to improve their efficiency, increase their geospatial knowledge and ultimately their bottom line.
